The 2025 District 76 Speech Contest, held under the inspiring theme “NEXT – What’s Next for Toastmasters in Japan?”, took place at Hitotsubashi Hall (一橋講堂) in central Tokyo.

Following last year’s emotional reunion theme, “To express. To connect. To meet again.”, this year’s event looked forward — inviting members across Japan to explore the next chapter of our growth and connection beyond the pandemic years.

The contest featured two world-class guests: Fursey Gotuaco and Hannah Cheng, both finalists at the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking. Their dynamic workshops and heartfelt messages inspired audiences to dream bigger and take the next step in their Toastmasters journey.

Another highlight was a special keynote speech by Masako Wakamiya, a celebrated technology pioneer and symbol of lifelong learning. Known worldwide for creating her first iPhone app at age 81, Ms. Wakamiya shared her story of curiosity, courage, and continuous growth — reminding everyone that it’s never too late to begin your “next.”
